John Lawrence

John Lawrence is an artist and sometime producer/curator. Taking a fluid approach to practice he works in an interdisciplinary way, often instigating collaborative projects in order to find new ways of working with others. Such projects have included After/Hours/Drop/Box – a peripatetic commissioning platform exploring the enduring influence of the music video on art practices, and more recently Oh – an artist-led record label and publishing imprint he co-runs with fellow artist Mat Jenner. Solo projects have included The Solar Pessimist, Cardiff (2017) as a result of being awarded the Kim Fielding Award, and Sickly Revelations: Life is brittle // REAL a touring project for Project Number, London, The Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Sunderland, and Oriel Davies Gallery, Newtown, (2016). John is Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol. He is also currently undertaking a practice-based PhD at Kingston University around the idea of ‘spatial writing’.
