Tape Music is an ongoing project by Taiwanese sound artist and composer Lin Chiwei. The work is performed by feeding a long tape into a spiral of singers who create a chant by performing the syllables embroidered or printed on the tape as it passes through their hands. Tape Music materialises the social through sound. It requires no previous learning from the participants. The tape unites performers in a communal speech act, elevating it to a mesmerising song that rises and falls. Tape Music (Score for Musarc) was created by Lin Chiwei for the choir in 2015. The tape, which is more than 100m long, was hand-printed by architect and long-standing member of the ensemble Neil Evensen.
