Stuart Mellor
Stuart Mellor is a Leeds based electronic composer, researcher, and sound designer currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Leeds. Trained as a classical trombonist, Stuart has worked since 2011 as a theatrical composer, exhibiting his work at Edinburgh Fringe 2013, 2014, and Light Night 2015. After discovering a deep-set passion for software development during his undergraduate degree, Stuart has spent the last four years exploring the use of acoustic analysis and DSP techniques to transform the world around us into music. Inspired by the work of Alvin Lucier and Max Neuhaus, his latest work is focused upon bringing “space to life” through a process that characterises the acoustic qualities of architectural space, which can be considered as a culmination of multiple significant features, and use this information to create music that is sympathetic to a site.
