Pia Rose Scattergood
Pia Rose Scattergood (b. 1999) is a freelance composer, performer and practitioner based in London. Her musical output focuses on improvisation, repetition, recycling of sonic material, text, memory, play, practice-as-research and working in transdisciplinary collaboration with artists across genres and different media.
Pia is currently working as composer/sound designer on a production of The Tempest at the Royal Central School of Music and Drama and will be premièring a new vocal work written by Amy Crankshaw and Clare Best in Italy in October 2022.
Pia graduated with a Masters in Composition from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2022, having previously received a BA (Hons) in Music from the University of Cambridge in 2020. Pia has recently collaborated with several high-profile ensembles and organisations, including: Britten Sinfonia | EXAUDI vocal ensemble | London Symphony Orchestra | Ligeti Quartet | Plus-Minus Ensemble | students at the Royal College of Art | choreographers and movement artists at the London Contemporary Dance School. Pia also won a coveted seat at the Orkest de Ereprijs' 28th International Young Composers Meeting in the Netherlands this year.
A keen performer, Pia has sung in a number of contemporary, choral and commercial contexts. Highlights include BBC Radio 3 broadcasts, a collaborative set at the London Jazz Festival in 2020 and 2021, and international tour visits to La Sagrada Familia and Shanghai Symphony Hall with the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge. Pia has also worked for renowned theatre companies such as Opera Holland Park and the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre in operational and managerial capacities.
Pia co-founded music website and digital project 'Apocalypse Music' in 2020 and is passionate about building a more diverse, equitable artistic landscape. She has represented AM as a press delegate at a number of music festivals including All Points East | RE-TEXTURED | Cross The Tracks | The Great Escape. Pia is an annual show reviewer at the EFG London Jazz Festival and will be providing freelance artist liaison support at several popular nighttime venues across London this Autumn/Winter.
