Cathy Heller Jones: On Repetition. Workshop Programme, 1 Feb—1 Mar 2022

On Repetition* is a five-week choral workshop programme with Cathy Heller Jones, Musarc’s director of music from 2008–20. The programme focuses on vocal practice, ensemble building and music reading skills. It acquaints the choir with a diverse range of choral works – from Bach to Eliott Carter, Judith Weir, Iván Erőd, and a work by Maria Rosa Coccia – the first woman to achieve the distinction of maestra di cappella of Rome in 1774, at the age of 15 – only recently published by Furore, the leading publisher of music by women composers.

The workshop is part of Musarc’s programme of impulse sessions with visiting artists, composers and performers who join the choir to extend the ensemble’s skills, knowledge and practice. This workshop is open to all. There are no auditions, but a requirement to practice at home. Depending on your skill level, you should allow a minimum of 1–1.5h per week to learn and familiarise yourself with the music.
